Uttarakhand flood: Family from Rae Bareli returns home

Stranded for 10 days, two families from Rae Bareily in Uttar Pradesh return home. Life is finally looking to return to normal for these families from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh but just a few days ago they were one of the many pilgrims stranded in Uttarakhand after flash floods and landslides wreaked havoc.

Recalling the traumatic days, a survivor Manoj Kumar Tripathi said,"We could hear screams of people around. There were both dead and alive among the people who were being washed away. When we stepped down we realised that the main gate of the temple which was at a floor's height was drowned and 4 to 5 bodies were stuck in the gate."

Battling tough terrain and rough weather their eyes swell with tears even at the thought of the harrowing pilgrimage. "A portion of of our hotel collapsed under which a girl was trapped. Manoj Kumar Tripathi pulled her out and saved her. I guess that is the reason why god saved us. When we went near the temple we saw 15 to 20 dead bodies lying in front of the temple which included men, women as well as some children. We were horrified by the sight," aother survivor, Manju Shukla said.

Her voice is just one of the thousands who have battled the odds and returned home safe, however several others are still stuck in the flood hit state -- their families hoping and praying each day for their safe return.
