South Korean soldiers re-enact battle

Over 500 South Korean soldiers participated in a re-enactment of a battle against North Korea on Saturday (June 22).

It took place in Chuncheon, about 100km north-west of Seoul, marking the 63rd anniversary of South Korea's victory against the North Korean army at "Chuncheon battle" in late June, 1950, just after the 1950-53 Korean War broke out.

The Korean War started June 25, 1950, when Communist North Korean troops launched a surprise attack on South Korea.

Hundreds of soldiers dressed in South and North Korean uniforms used battle tanks and artilleries to participate in the re-enactment.

Around 3,000 people were invited to attend the event, including two hundred war veterans.
