A new study suggests that people are mean to their unattractive coworkers.

The unscientific study was conducted by an associate business professor at Michigan State University and involved 114 people at a workplace in the Southeast United States.

The workers were asked how frequently they felt targeted by the meanness of others. Each participant also had his or her photo taken.

A group who had never met any of the subjects was given the task of assigning attractiveness ratings to the people in the pictures.

Friends and partners of each individual were also asked to provide an honest assessment of their friendliness.

Combined, the results revealed that unattractive people are indeed subjected to ridicule and victimization, although being nice does offer some respite. Age, gender, and tenure sadly didn’t help much.

Of course, there’s no excuse for picking on others, but it seems being beautiful isn’t all its cracked up to be, either.

Studies have shown that people who rank high on the attractiveness scale often are at a disadvantage when it comes to getting jobs, especially if decision-maker is of the same gender.
