Fashion police up the stakes at Royal Ascot
Feathers, flowers and fascinators.
If Ladies Day at Royal Ascot is known for one thing, it's the hats.
It's a standout event on the British social calendar, as well as the racing one.
This year though the Ascot fashion police have raised the stakes.
They've always had strict rules about arena attire.
But in previous years those falling foul of fashion faux pas' would be given clothes to allow them in.
Now they have to pay.
That hasn't stopped people like Paula from showing their true colours -- even nodding towards royalty.
SOUNDBITE: Royal Ascot Racegoer, Paula, saying (English):
"I did the hat in the honour of the royal baby, as you can see up there, to wish him happiness. The baby girl, baby boy. This is the theme of the hat, and I'm enjoying very much to come to Ascot since some years, and I did my hat by myself, helped by my husband also."
Some had to be more careful with their nods -- in case they poked anyone's eyes out
