US intelligence gathering: Officials deny widespread spying

News that the United States has been monitoring the private data of people around the world has been heavily criticised by civil rights groups. Now, President Barack Obama's administration has gone on the offensive to deny accusations that its spy agencies are guilty of widespread invasion of Americans' privacy.
