If you have the option, bypass the hot air dryer. They take 30 seconds longer than a towel to do the job and time is important as bacteria love to hang out on wet hands. It also gives any germs still hanging around more opportunity to spread.

Jet air driers are better as they get rid of moisture faster, but their super-strong air stream has the power to spread icky stuff far and wide. Plus, they’re really loud and extended proximity can have damaging effects.

Plain old paper towel does the best overall job at drying and stopping bacteria from spreading all over the place. They’re also more efficient time-wise as they’ll do a stellar job in a mere 15 seconds.

Determining which one is best for the environment really depends on how many towels you use versus how long you keep your hands under the drier.
