Turkey witnesses fiercest anti-government protests in years

Turkish authorities have arrested dozens of people protesting against the government, after riot police fired tear gas on demonstrations in Istanbul and Ankara.At least 60 people were detained on Friday as they demonstrated in Istanbul for the fourth consectuive day at a rally which began peacefully over the demolition of a park, but which turned into a broader protest against what is seen as increasingly authoritarian government.Tens of thousands of people took to the streets in cities including Izmir.Several people in Istanbul complained that riot police used tear gas indiscriminately, and many were left wounded.Al Jazeera's Caroline Malone reports.
