Freight train derails, catches fire near Baltimore

A freight train derailed northeast of Baltimore, Maryland.

SOUNDBITE: Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz Saying:

"Approximately two o'clock this afternoon, by preliminary investigation, had some contact with a commercial trash truck and as a result of that contact, 15 cars were derailed and two cars caught on fire."

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz says the burning cars triggered a blast.

SOUNDBITE: Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, Saying:

"The force of the explosion caused damage to two nearby warehouses, which are of a corrugated metal substance, taking off the facing on one building and blowing in doors on the other. The driver of the trash truck suffered injury and the last report is that he is in serious but stable condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Hospital."

No other injuries have been reported. This is third major rail accident in the United States in the past two weeks.
