A street crumbles after shelling in Syria as battles rage on

An entire street is wiped out in a rebel stronghold in Syria.

The video, which could not be independently verified by Reuters comes as President Bashar al-Assad, is battling to seize the town which controls access to the coast.

It's a struggle that could prove an important test of Assad's ability to withstand the revolt.

The conflict in the country has gone on for more than two years and has killed more than 80,000 people.

Syria's divided opposition leaders have failed to back a plan by their outgoing leader for President Bashar al-Assad to cede power gradually to end the country's civil war -- an obstacle to international peace talks expected next month.

No one is giving up the fight, as rebels convene in the town to join the battle.

Footage reportedly from Homs shows smoke rising after rebels attack a military airport. Fighting has intensified ahead of proposed peace talks -- where it is still unclear who will be sitting down at the table.
